Initial Goal

The initial goal of this project was to redesign the experience of memorizing and understanding new concepts, techniques and terms by exploring how people learn vocabulary and designing a mobile app to address their goals and needs.

Problem Statement

"Andreea needs a way to learn specific construction terminology in record time because she needs to give detailed instructions to the constructors and be able to describe how things must be done without misunderstanding. We will know this to be true when we see her learning 5 sepcific construction terms each day and spending no more than 20 minutes on doing so."

(And finally finding a job and feeling comfortable to address a constructor and explain a detailed design.)

whowhatwhenwherewhy
The app focuses on an audience between 12–40-years-old enrolled in courses or learning a language.
A mobile application focused on learning new vocabulary through Memory Palaces.
This application is meant to be used on-the-go for quick 5 to 10 minute study sessions.
Location and context will ultimately depend on each user. ANYWHERE
Users need a way to methodically categorize, reference, and study new vocabulary and concepts so they can move forward confidently in their field.

User Personas

"As Andreea, I want to broaden my construction vocabulary in German so that I can find a job and develop successfully in my career here in Germany" / "As Andreea, I want to be able to memorize the words I learn every day so that I can remember them when I need to use them." / "As Andreea, I want to be able to learn quick and easy so that I can spend time with my family."

Usability Testing

To evaluate what people say and do when interacting directly with the prototype I chose to do 3 Moderate, Remote and 1 Unmoderated test. Four scenarios were given in which the testers completed the two main tasks developed. To test the efficiency, ease, and speed with which they can complete them. I intended to find out whether they enjoy interacting with the app or if the prototype had any critical errors that needed to be redesigned before continuing. As a Moderator, I observed and measured if users understand the project, its value, and how to complete basic initial functions such as add a term and assign a term to an interactive object.
